You Turned on a Light Switch
Things
You Will Never Do in Heaven
Part 1
Introduction
Since the invention of
electricity and the light bulb, people; day in and day out, flip the switch to
turn a light on or turn it off. 95% we won’t give it a second thought until the
power goes out. Then we light candles or battery-operated flashlights or lanterns
and wonder how people survived without electricity.
Naturally, when the power
comes back on, we’ll say a silent prayer of thanks and continues our lives as
if nothing happened. In heaven, we won’t have to turn on a light on…ever.
Jesus is Our Light
In John 8:12, it is written,
Then Jesus spoke to
them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not
walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” In this dim, dark
world of sin we know that we shall never walk in darkness as long as we look to
Jesus to guide the way.
As the apostle John wrote in
1 John 1:5-7, This is
the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light
and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him,
and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in
the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Men Love the Darkness
Men of this world prefer the darkness. This explains why most crimes happens at night as they prefer to work under the cloak of darkness to keep their evil deeds a secret.
Jesus said in John 3:19-20, “And this is the condemnation,
that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than
light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the
light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
The apostle Paul confirms
this, in his letter to the church in Ephesus, when he writes, And have no fellowship with the
unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them (Ephesians 5:11). Christians
are not to associate with those who prefer the darkness rather than the light.
The sinful deeds of man will be found out when the light of the gospel is
shined on it.
No Light Switches in Heaven
As we stated at the
beginning, we have no need for light switches, or the sun, in Heaven. John
explains this in Revelation 21:23-27, The
city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings
of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut
at all by day (there shall be no night there). And they shall bring the glory
and the honor of the nations into it. But there shall by no means enter it
anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who
are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
He confirms this in the next
chapter, as well, There
shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord
God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever (Revelation
22:5).
Conclusion
When you turn on a light
switch, thank Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla for their contributions. But give
praise to God almighty whose light shines day and night for those who are His
children.
Remember what Jesus said in (Matthew
5:14-16) “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on
a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket,
but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see
your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
