Lefties and the Bible

Image
Introduction         Let me begin this article by saying that I am a left-handed individual and am very proud to be a “Leftie”. The old saying goes that if the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then left-handed people are the only ones in their right mind.         Now, the reason for this hoopla over what hand I use is based upon an ancient superstition that using the left hand, as the dominate hand, is consider evil or satanic. In the examples to follow (from scripture) we’ll see why people believe this and what the truth really is. Seated at His Right Hand                 The main example for considering the left hand to be evil can be found in Matt. 26:64, “Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Because Jesus is seated at God’s right hand, this is why the left hand is considered evil or

The Christian and Worship

Introduction The following is an excerpt from a thesis that a student wrote in 2003… The coliseum sported the latest in audio and lighting technology. Onstage, performers kept us entertained for an hour while the several thousand people in attendance clapped, cheered, and laughed through the entire presentation. Video cameras caught all of the action on stage as well as the reactions from the crowds. Kiosks and booths in the lobby sold wares from different musicians and comedians, while boasting upcoming events. I was not at a rock concert. I was in church—a megachurch.         If this describes the worship service and church where you attend, you can very easily conclude that is not the church of God’s choice but, rather, your choice. The reason for this is that it caters to the flesh rather than the soul. People want to get something out of worship service compared to putting something in it. Last week we looked at what the church really is. This week we as

ABOUT MARRIAGE AND DIVORCE

Image
This week's Gospel vault is an article from A.C. Grider (1988)… By A. C. Grider (deceased)  Let me have a word with you about marriage and divorce. First, let us see what the BIBLE says on the subject. In Matt. 19:4-6 we find that, 1. God made them male and female. (That rules out homosexualism and lesbianism, those things are sin!). 2. The man shall leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife. 3. The twain shall be one flesh. 4. God joins them together. And then God said, 5. What God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. You can read the same thing almost word for word in Mark 10:6-9. Then God tells us in Matt. 19:9 that, “ Whosoever shall put away his wife except it be for fornication , and shall marry another, committeth adultery; and whoso marrieth her that is put away doth commit adultery. Thus the Lord has spoken on the subject and everybody can UNDERSTAND what he has said! Everybody can do what the Lord said do, and can refrain fr

The Christian…and The Church

(from 2005) Introduction You will often hear people of denominations state, “This Sunday I’m going to church.” Or “When I go to church on Sunday, I’ll pray for you and your family.” Why do you have to wait until Sunday? And why do you have to go to a building before you pray for someone? The denominations believe that the church building is where God lives and considers it holy ground (we’ll discuss that in another article). They don’t really understand what the church actually is. Since I became a Christian, I stopped going to church. I still attend worship services but I don’t go to church.   I don’t forsake the assembling of the saints (Heb. 10:25) but at the same time I don’t go to church.   Confused?         For most people this statement sounds absurd. It sounds like I’m contradicting myself; saying one thing and then reversing it in the very next breath. So how can a believer in God, who follows the Bible, not go to Church?   What is The Church?

The B-I-B-L-E, et al.

(from 2007) Introduction A very well-known song that is sung by children has these lyrics: “ The B I B L E, Yes, that’s the book for me. I stand alone On the Word of God The B I B L E!” Now suppose this song is taught by a Mormon parent to their child. The song might look like this:             “ I stand alone on the Word of God, and the Book of Mormon, and Doctrines and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, and Words of Wisdom, and the History of the Church; The B I B L E!” I Stand Alone What exactly does it mean to “Stand alone on the Word of God”? The answer is simple. You accept the Bible as the Words of God, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and you have no need for anything else. You forsake all other doctrines. The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy concerning this, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the ma

What is a Christian?

Image
(from 2005) Introduction Ask several people what is a Christian and you might get several answers. The primary reason is that most people think that if you attend church that makes you a Christian, while others will say that if you believe in God and Jesus, that makes you a Christian. As Found in the Bible         The word, ‘Christian’ is only used three times in scripture (Acts 11:26; 26:18; 1 Pet. 4:16). It is referenced to those who were/are followers of Christ. The Sanhedrin wrongfully referred to it as a denomination of Judaism; calling it a sect of the Nazarenes (Acts 24:5) Paul defends the faith by saying it is referred to as The Way (Acts 24:14; 9:2; Jn. 14:6) and is separate and apart from Judaism.         Christians are to be separate and apart from ALL denominations (2 Cor. 6:17; 1 Cor. 1:10; 1 Cor. 4:6). No true New Testament Christian would align themselves with any man-made institution calling itself a church. If you cannot find the name of your
