Is Eternity Forever?

Bound for Eternity, Part 6   Introduction To view the title of this article, you might assume that I’m asking a rather pointless question. To others, though, you might conclude that there is a genuine reason for the question and an interesting answer to go with it. Simply put, there are some out there in the religious world who firmly believe that eternity is NOT forever; as far as Hell goes. They do not believe that there is an eternal punishment just as there is an eternal reward. Jesus said in Matthew 25:46, “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” There are some that disagree with the clear statement siting that it’s only Satan and his angels that will suffer. The rest, will burn for a short time then cease to exist; also known as annihilation.   Dictionary Definition Annihilation —1. The act of reducing to nothing or non-existence; or the act of destroying the form or combination of parts under which a thi...

Yes, Virginia, there is an Afterlife

Bound for Eternity, Part 1   Series Introduction In Hebrews 9:27, the writer states, And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. This clearly shows that there is more to our existence beyond the mortal realm. All through scripture, both Old and New Testaments, there is discussion of an afterlife. In the coming weeks we’ll look at the various aspects of the afterlife; the next location after life, the second coming, the judgement, and our eternal reward.   Article Introduction Growing up as a child of the 1970s, one of the more memorable slogans was heard in a beer commercial; "You only go around once in life. So grab for all the gusto you can…", Schlitz, 1970. Although just a commercial, a lot of people have the concept that there is nothing beyond this mortal realm. There are those who believe that when you die, that’s it; Game Over. But is that really the end? There’s another saying, “He who dies with the most toys wins!...

The Throne of Hell?

Image
Introduction In Chapters 4 and 5 of the Book of Revelation, we see a detailed vision of the throne room of Heaven. Keeping in mind that this is not a literal description; rather a figurative one as announced in Rev. 1:3. But we see God sitting on His throne and His Son, Jesus, approaching the throne in regards to the scroll with the seven seals. A lot of people these days think that there is a similar scene in Hell; while God sits on His throne in Heaven, Satan sits on his throne in Hell. According to scripture, nothing could be further from the truth. You’re in My Chair! Over the last few decades I’ve always heard young people talk about Hell and the fact they believe that Satan sits upon a throne; watching over his dominion of lost souls. I’ve even heard people say that they would boldly walk up to him and say, “You’re sitting in my chair” which would be some kind of challenge to claim his throne and therefore rule the dominion instead. One such indiv...

Throwing in the Towel

Introduction There are times when we believe in something because it’s been instilled in us since we are children. For example, we are told about the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and The Tooth Fairy. We believe in them because our parents tell us it’s fine. And although it’s adorable when we are kids, as we get older, it changes us. Sometimes kids are too smart and eventually figure it out, other times when they are finally told it could devastate them. Some children can’t handle the truth and want to reject it, or blame their parents for years of lying. However, when it comes to spiritual matters, when the truth is shown them, they’d rather believe what they were taught then to change. And that lack of change might cost them their soul. Guess I’m going to Hell We talked last week about my discussion on social media in regards to musical instruments being using in the assembly. I only hope the people involved took the time to read both articles. One of the f...

If You Were to Die Tonight…

Image
(from 2004) Introduction         This is a question that most people would rather ignore that to answer: If you were to die tonight, where would you go? Some might instantly say, “Heaven” while others might flippantly, or even proudly say, “Hell”. But what if I told you that, according to scripture, you would not go to neither place when you die? When You Die…         Contrary to what most religious people will tell you, Heaven or Hell is not the next stop after you pass from this mortal realm. They are the places of eternity as stated by Jesus in Mt. 25:46, “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Eternity is your “final reward” but there is a location that every soul will venture into after leaving here. It’s what I’ve referred to as the Giant Waiting Room. Welcome to Hades         If you’...
