That’s in the Bible? Part 1   Introduction In the continuation of this series, “Is it Scripture?” we’re going to look at things that are actually found in the bible that people may not have realized is in there. In Matthew 28:18-20 just before He ascended into Heaven Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” What does ‘all authority’ mean? We’ll discuss that in this article.   The Son of God We know from scripture that Jesus is the Son of God (Mt. 16:16); that He walked the Earth (Jn. 1:14) for about 3 ½ years; teaching, healing, leaving us an example. We also know that He purposefully went to the cross (1 Jn. 3:16) to die for our sins. Then He was raised from the dead (Lk...

Edifying the Saved

The Work of the Church,  Part 2   Introduction We’ve been looking at the actual work of the church. Last week we covered, “Teaching the Lost” and this week’s article is about edification of the saved. There are a lot of people out there who believe that the church should be doing so much more that what listed in scripture but if we don’t have authority to do it, then we shouldn’t. As the apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 4:6, Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written , that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.   Continue in the teachings A lot of new converts out there have a belief that once you are baptized and become a Christian, that you are done and nothing more is needed. They follow the five steps in the obedience of the Father but then they sit back or return to their former lives assuming that since th...

The Work of the Church,  Part 1   Introduction In these next three articles, we’ll look at the actual work of the church. One of the most dangerous things that a Christian can do is to perform duties, on behalf of the church, and state that just because the bible didn’t say, “not to”, it’s acceptable. It is not acceptable because that would open the gates to any number of activities people could claim are acceptable.   Evangelism What is evangelism? The definition, in the 1913 Webster’s dictionary,...

Acts of Worship, Pt. 5 Introduction The fifth act of worship we will look at is preaching the gospel. Now you might look at the title and wonder how is this studying? Don’t you study the bible in bible classes? The answer is yes, but you also study in the worship assembly. If you disagree, then it’s most likely you’re either doing it wrong or you’re in the wrong congregation.   Definition of Preaching From the International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, here are some definitions of the word, ‘Preaching’… "to bring or tell good tidings"         Psalms 40:9, I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know. Isaiah 61:1, "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the pr...
