You Took some Medicine

Things You will Never do in Heaven, Part 4

Introduction

The concept of medication has come a long way since the 19th Century and earlier. People were sometimes using one type of medicine to cure numerous ailments.

It wasn’t until the late 20s that penicillin was discovered and early 1940s before it was mass produced. Today, there are pills and syrups for almost all illnesses out there; in addition to aids for insomnia, relaxation, headaches, and staying alert.

All of these pills, liquids, and concoctions will be a mere memory after the Second Coming of Christ. As John writes in Revelation 21:4, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Lifelong Illness

There are those illnesses and diseases that are such that even medicine won’t cure. Perhaps it might slow it down but never reducing it or causing it to cease completely.

One example can be found in Mark 5:25-26, Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. This can be extremely frustrating for one who spends most of their time going back and forth to a physician; being poked and prodded and handed any number of medicines to aid in the problem but to no avail.

It was her faith that had her approach Jesus the way she did, When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. For she said, "If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well." Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction (Mark 5:27-29).

Modern-Day Faith Healers

People spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars going to so-called healers looking for that magical miracle cure. We know from scripture that miracles ceased by the end of the first century. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:8-10, Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

The ‘perfect’ that Paul is referring to, in verse 10, is the scriptures. When the bible was completed, all the miracles ceased as they were not needed anymore.

Some would argue that the ‘perfect’ is referring to Jesus in the Second Coming and that isn’t true. If it were so, then they would have to state that the bible is not perfect. James says otherwise, But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does (James 1:25).

Let’s go one step further. In March 2020, at the start of the pandemic, faith healing services were cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak. If miracles were still taking place, wouldn’t these healers be part of the first responders and go around healing everyone? Why cancel if you have the ability to heal?

Conclusion

Medicine won’t be needed in Heaven. We’ll be cared for by our Father, God almighty. As John states in Revelation 22:1-2, And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
