Your Life is Preparation for Eternity

Image
What is Your Life? Part 3 Introduction Several years ago, someone turned the word, “Bible” into an acronym and it stands for: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. This couldn’t be a truer statement and I used it, once, for a sermon outline. Solomon wrote, Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say, “I have no pleasure in them” (Ecclesiastes 12:1). If we become a Christians at a young age, instead of waiting for retirement, we can utilize our life in preparation of eternity. At the conclusion of chapter 12 it states, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). Keeping God’s commandments is what makes up the Christian. The more time we give ourselves, the more ready we will be for the Day of Judgment.   ...

Yes, Virginia, there is an Afterlife

Bound for Eternity, Part 1   Series Introduction In Hebrews 9:27, the writer states, And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. This clearly shows that there is more to our existence beyond the mortal realm. All through scripture, both Old and New Testaments, there is discussion of an afterlife. In the coming weeks we’ll look at the various aspects of the afterlife; the next location after life, the second coming, the judgement, and our eternal reward.   Article Introduction Growing up as a child of the 1970s, one of the more memorable slogans was heard in a beer commercial; "You only go around once in life. So grab for all the gusto you can…", Schlitz, 1970. Although just a commercial, a lot of people have the concept that there is nothing beyond this mortal realm. There are those who believe that when you die, that’s it; Game Over. But is that really the end? There’s another saying, “He who dies with the most toys wins!...

More Than a Ghost Story IV (2021 Edition)

Introduction          One of the more noted horror authors is Stephen King. Having written dozens of books and short stories, he is one of the tops in his business. One of the literary devices he has used in a couple of his stories is that of mysterious writings on a wall. Two phrases come to mind; “Red Rum” in his story The Shining (“murder” spelled backwards) and the more enigmatic phrase, “Give me what I want and I’ll go away”, from Storm of The Century. The scriptures tell of a similar occurrence that took place during Daniel’s time.           The Writing’s on The Wall      In Daniel 5:1-5, Belshazzar, descendant of Nebuchadnezzar, and last of the Kings of Babylon, was throwing a party when a bizarre event took place:     " Belshazzar the king made a great feast for a thousand of his lords, and drank wine in the presence of the thousand. While he tasted the w...

If You Were to Die Tonight…

Image
(from 2004) Introduction         This is a question that most people would rather ignore that to answer: If you were to die tonight, where would you go? Some might instantly say, “Heaven” while others might flippantly, or even proudly say, “Hell”. But what if I told you that, according to scripture, you would not go to neither place when you die? When You Die…         Contrary to what most religious people will tell you, Heaven or Hell is not the next stop after you pass from this mortal realm. They are the places of eternity as stated by Jesus in Mt. 25:46, “And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Eternity is your “final reward” but there is a location that every soul will venture into after leaving here. It’s what I’ve referred to as the Giant Waiting Room. Welcome to Hades         If you’...
