I Am Made in the Image of God
Who am I? Part 1
Introduction
During the time of creation,
in the book of Genesis, it is written, Then
God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air,
and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that
creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God
He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1:26-27).
This, of course, is what
sets us apart from the rest of God’s creation. We are made in His image
therefore was are the primary of all creation.
Not the Physical Form
There are some who think
that if we are made in God’s image than He must have had a (insert physical
oddity); be it: big ears, large nose, huge hands, etc. But that’s not it. It’s
the moral code that is part of our souls.
Even those who claim to be
atheists have a moral code. They understand right from wrong and won’t upset
the balance of the law just for fun. They may not believe in God but when they
heed to simple traffic laws, obey business hours, and know what’s right for their
children, they are proving God’s existence and that we are made in the image of
God.
Jesus and Parenting
For example, Jesus said, “If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:11-13). This shows that whether you are a believer or not, you’ll will provide for your children as needed.
But suppose, in each of the
above, the child asks for the stone, serpent, or scorpion, do you give it to
them? The answer, of course, is “No”. Even if the child asks for the wrong
thing, you give them the right thing because it is part of your moral code.
Do You Refuse the Gift?
Those who contemplate
suicide are those who don’t see their life as a gift from God. God created you;
gave you life, the very least you can do is thank Him every single day. Make
the most out of the life that you were given because He took the time to create
you and that makes you a very special individual. As the psalmist writes, Behold, children are a heritage from
the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward (Ps. 127:3)
James writes, Every good gift and every perfect gift
is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no
variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17).
Conclusion
We can proudly say that we
are made in the image of God and that we are His heritage. Don’t forsake this
amazing gift as there is only one of its kind to each individual out there.
