Everything is Changing

Image
Introduction         As you look around you, everything is changing. The person that you are now is not the same as the person you were 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago. The life around you changes too; births, deaths, graduations, weddings, retirements, etc.         As much as you’d like things to stay just as they are, we have to admit that it won’t be the same. Whether we want to accept it or not, things change; some for the better, others for the worse. The Changes in My Life         There have been many changes in my personal life; moving to Arizona, getting married, having children, watching them grow before your eyes. But there have also been changes that I wasn’t expecting: Divorce, hatred by a child, moving to a trailer park (my choice, though), and the death of both of my parents.         Although my parents passed in their 80s, it’s just hard to imagine a life without them. I know that I didn’t visit often; being on the other side of the country,

Salvation is a gift, but…

Image
Introduction         Too many people in the world today think that there is no work involved as far as salvation goes. They say, “All you have to do is believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” But if you ask them about repentance from sin, they’ll say it is necessary. And, if you ask them about verbally confessing Jesus name, they agree with that too.         If you point out that they don’t really in believe in ‘Faith Only’, they most likely will disagree with you; especially if subject of baptism comes up, and that’s where they draw the line. Baptism isn’t Necessary!         When the subject of baptism comes up that’s when people rankle in regards to salvation. Some believe that baptism is only “an outward sign of an inward grace”. In other words, you are saved when you believe in Jesus and then later you can “show it” by being baptized.         So many people agree with everything else that is required; even those who came “Faith Only” as we said earl

Leaving the Comfort Zone

Image
Introduction              Some people do not like change. Even if it’s an improvement they simply don’t like it. Technology, for example, is constantly changing. One year you’re listening to LP records and the next year, it’s compact discs. The same with movies; from VHS to DVD; and now Blu-Ray. People try to resist these advances; settling into their “comfort zone” of entertainment, but even they soon realize that they have to change.   It’s just a Vice; we all have one In religion it’s almost the same as more people are staying in their “comfort zone”. There are those who call themselves Christians that attend worship, read their bible, pray, and basically lead a “Godly life”. However, when you explore their life you notice that this “Christianity” is only on the surface. Something is still there that shouldn’t be because they can’t leave the “comfort zone”. Things like: an occasional glass of wine with dinner, a purchased lottery ticket (but only if

The Christian in The World

Image
Introduction         Are you a Closet Christian? One who lives their life like everyone else and then on Sunday, you put on the costume of Christianity. Your behavior, mannerisms, and even conversation are that of a Christian but on Monday, you place your Christian Costume in the closet and forget about it until next week.   You, of course, won’t disagree when someone mentions Heb. 10: 25, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” But is that enough? Even some of the younger members of the Lord’s church go through life like this. They will become converted and “act” like a Christian around family and their Christian friends, but once they are old enough to go out on their own, they remove the “costume” of Christianity and live the way they want. You’re being Offensive!         One main reason people don’t want to tell others, in the world, that
