See You Tomorrow

Image
Bound for Eternity, Pt. 5   Introduction The phrase, “See you tomorrow” is commonly used daily. When you leave work or school for the day, when you leave a friend’s house, and so on. However, tomorrow never gets here. For example, today is Monday. That means that Sunday was yesterday, and Tuesday is tomorrow. When Tuesday arrives, it is then called, “Today” and Wednesday becomes tomorrow. Essentially, tomorrow never arrives as it always becomes today. In this article, we will look at when tomorrow does arrive.   Work while it is Day In John 9:4, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” This is not to say that no one can work the overnight shift. It’s simply a matter of consistent daylight for us to work. Jesus is saying that there comes a time when no one will work at all; death or the Second Coming. It is during that day that we should accomplish everything we possibly can because we will n...

Where do The Dead Live?

Bound for Eternity, pt. 4   Introduction Contrary to popular belief, when people die, and leave this mortal realm, they do not immediately go to Heaven (or Hell). The saying, “She’s looking down on us right now” has no merit whatsoever. Instead, there is a place that is more of a “waiting room” of those who left mortality and are waiting for Judgment Day. Jesus speaks of this place, called Hades, in Luke 16:19-21. There are two sides to Hades; Abraham’s Bosom (Paradise in Lk. 23:43) and Tartarus (Torment in Lk. 16:23). Between the two locations is an impassable gulf. In this article, we will study this passage of scripture.   Not a Parable Many religious people want to ignore this passage as simply a parable used by Jesus to tell a story. However, in the parables, all of Jesus’ examples are simple scenarios which could actually be a real thing. No names are given; just references to an occupation or social status. In Luke 16, although the rich man isn’t ...

There are Two Ways

Image
Bound for Eternity, Part 3 Introduction In our last article, we learned that all roads do NOT lead to heaven. In reality, it’s only one. This week we’re going to look closer at what Jesus said in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” In this passage, Jesus spoke of two ways; the right way and the wrong way. We’ll look at each of these in turn.   The Broad Way As mentioned in verse 13, the broad way is used by the majority in life. Imagine you’re on a major highway with 6 lanes and no speed limit. Everyone that is on this highway is going at a smooth pace; no hazards, no accidents, etc. The question to ask is, “Why are there so many people on the broad way if it leads to destruction?” The answer is, no one knows it’s headed to destruction. On t...

Yes, Virginia, there is an Afterlife

Image
Bound for Eternity, Part 1   Series Introduction In Hebrews 9:27, the writer states, And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. This clearly shows that there is more to our existence beyond the mortal realm. All through scripture, both Old and New Testaments, there is discussion of an afterlife. In the coming weeks we’ll look at the various aspects of the afterlife; the next location after life, the second coming, the judgement, and our eternal reward.   Article Introduction Growing up as a child of the 1970s, one of the more memorable slogans was heard in a beer commercial; "You only go around once in life. So grab for all the gusto you can…", Schlitz, 1970. Although just a commercial, a lot of people have the concept that there is nothing beyond this mortal realm. There are those who believe that when you die, that’s it; Game Over. But is that really the end? There’s another saying, “He who dies with the most toys wins!...
