Unfriended for Christ
Introduction
In 1 Peter 4:16 the apostle writes, “Yet
if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify
God in this matter.” Very few people would understand this verse; even those of the
denominational world would be confused as to glorifying God if they suffer.
Our world today tells us that if someone ridicules us
or persecutes us, we should be offended and take the matter to a supervisor,
teacher, or parent. On social media it can seem devastating to suddenly be
‘Unfriended’ on Facebook, but if your stance for the truth is what caused it,
you shouldn’t feel ashamed.
The Transgender Doll
A few years ago, a company was introducing a
transgender doll based on a real person. It was a young boy who became a girl
and the doll was to praise the child’s decision to live their life they way
they wanted to.
I posted the article on my personal page and stated
that Transgenderism was an abomination before God. Shortly after that, I was
‘unfriended’ and blocked by four people; all because I stood by my faith. One
individual challenged me in regards to purchasing the doll myself or if I even
knew anyone who was transgendered and then she quickly answered, ‘no’, for me.
It was true that I was not planning on buying the doll
but, then again, I don’t plan on buying ANY doll; be it for myself or someone
else. I don’t run out and purchase the latest Barbie© doll or figure
from any Disney© film, so that comment is irrelevant. In regards to
knowing anyone who is a transgender; given that I work in the retail industry I
have encountered, and worked alongside, several which make that comment
pointless as well.
What does the Bible say?
Obviously, the bible doesn’t use the word transgender
but that, of course, doesn’t mean it’s all right. But let’s go all the way back
to the days of creation and see what God said in regards to the first two
people He made.
In Genesis 1:26-27, Then God said,
"Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the
cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the
earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He
created him; male and female He created them. Everyone is familiar with verse 26; “make man in Our
image…” but look close as verse 27, “He created him; male and female He created
them.”
This tells us everything we need to know! God created
males and females and nothing is said about one transforming into the other. In
other words, the idea of transgenderism suggests that God make a mistake in
creating certain people. If this were true, then we have to call the entire
bible into question; everything that God had done, from the very beginning in
Gen. 1:1 all the way to Rev. 22:21, would then be challenged and, more or less,
unbelieved!
With all that’s going on in the world; the advancement
of technology, the idea of multiple genders, and etc. people think that God
hasn’t give any thought to these things that it’s impossible for Him to account
for every development in the world here in the 21st Century. But if
you study the scriptures enough, you’ll find His answers there. As Paul wrote
in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, All Scripture is given by inspiration of
God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for
instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.
Conclusion
If you find that several people have suddenly
‘Unfriended’ you because of your beliefs, just remember what Jesus said in the
Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for
righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when
they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely
for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in
heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” (Matthew 5:10-12) You’re not
alone in this fight for the truth!
