All Things to all People

Image
In 1 Corinthians 9:19-22, the apostle Paul discusses how he was able to be on the same level as all men; walking in their footsteps, sympathizing with their problems. He didn’t see himself as better than them. I’d like to focus on the last part of verse 22 which reads, I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. This was all about saving men’s souls by finding common ground. The Bible itself is “all things to all men” in that there is no other book, out there, which can answer all of your concerns, problems, or give you the best encouragement.   Worshipping God Most of last year we looked at how God wanted to be worshipped. Jesus speaks of this in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Man says that they will worship God in their ow

Who Wrote the Bible?

Image
Introduction Several years ago, I attempted to talk to a co-worker about the bible and he wasn’t interested. I was trying to tell him it was written by God; even though he had several human writers. His comment to me was, “Are you trying to tell me that God whispered in the ears of these men of what to write?” At the time, I didn’t have an answer. But it does make one pause and ask the question, who did write the bible? We’ll look at some possibilities below.   Potential Authors AN UNBELIEVER—How ironic would it be if the scriptures were, in fact, written by an Atheist? He would show how foolish it is to waste time worshipping someone, or something, that doesn’t exist. For sure, he would discuss the worship of idols like in Isa. 44:8-19; how one would spend all this time worshipping an inanimate object, hoping to be rewarded. But it isn’t written by an Atheist as they wouldn’t include verses like Psalms 14:1, The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God."

Is the word "Amen" sexist?

Image
This is not a typical article of mine but one that's necessary to clear up a matter which has recently come to light. At the start of the new congress on January 04, 2021, a Missouri representative; also a Methodist minister concluded his prayer by saying, "Amen and A-woman". His purpose for doing this was to acknowledge a large number of female representatives in congress. His comment received a serious amount of backlash. The question to ask, then, is the word Amen sexist? The answer is a resounding "NO!" To understand what this word truly means, click on this sermon about the word Amen. Conclusion Any attempt to try and "modernize" such a word or phrase with an additional word or phrase clearly does not understand the scriptures at all.
