This week's lesson is Truth vs. Gray Areas . It is preached by Gary Johnsen in 2016.

Everything is Changing

Image
Introduction         As you look around you, everything is changing. The person that you are now is not the same as the person you were 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago. The life around you changes too; births, deaths, graduations, weddings, retirements, etc.         As much as you’d like things to stay just as they are, we have to admit that it won’t be the same. Whether we want to accept it or not, things change; some for the better, others for the worse. The Changes in My Life         There have been many changes in my personal life; moving to Arizona, getting married, having children, watching them grow before your eyes. But there have also been changes that I wasn’t expecting: Divorce, hatred by a child, moving to a trailer park (my choice, though), and the death of both of my parents.         Although my parents passed in their 80s, it’s just hard to imagine a life without them. I know that I didn’t visit often; being on the other side of the country,

Q3: Was Jesus a Mean Man?

Image
Introduction         Jesus is referred to as the Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6), Peter preached peace through Jesus Christ to Cornelius and family (Acts. 10:34-38), and most of the epistles opened with the phrase; “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”         However, if this is the case; that he is a peace-bearing individual, then why does certain parts of scripture paint a different picture of him? The Passover Pandemonium         John chapter two is well-known by bible students for the first miracle that Jesus performed at the Wedding at Cana (vs. 1-11); Water into Wine. However, if you read on into the next scene you see a side of Jesus that most students would rather not know about. In verses 13-16 it reads: Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He

Death Shows No Partiality

Image
Introduction         A lot of young people these days believe that the bible and religion are for the older folks; those who are close to death and ready to pass over to the other side. Teenagers see themselves as too young to settle down in Christianity; stating that they have things they want to get in place first. They want to graduate, get a job, get married, buy a house, have children, and a variety of other things.         They also see death as something that happens to the older people; overlooking: accidents, overdoses, diseases, and suicides. Since they aren’t of this ilk, they expect to live for decades.         However, as scripture teaches that God shows no partiality with salvation, He also shows no partiality with death. No Partiality with Salvation In Acts 10 we see Peter entering the house of a Gentile which is forbidden by Jewish Law. But he was sent there through the inspiration of God and a vision. When he met with Cornelius, he was

Questions concerning Jesus: Was Jesus Attractive?

Image
Was Jesus Attractive? Introduction         Another challenge in the life of a Christian is trying to get an understanding of what Jesus looked like. A lot of times you’ll see an image posted on Social Media of a young man in a robe with a beard and mustache. They tell you it’s Jesus and you should share this image in others. Of course, if you know your Star Wars movies, it’s the character Obi Wan Kenobi from the prequel films.         The question posed is: What did Jesus look like? In article to follow, we’ll try to answer this question. Paintings before Photographs         The images below can easily be identified as: Ludwig Von Beethoven, George Washington, and William Shakespeare.   At least, that is what we are told by teachers and experts. We have to go on a sign of faith to agree with them that this is who they are. Photography wasn’t invented until the mid-19 th Century; when some of the first pictures were that of Abraham Lincoln and th

Salvation is a gift, but…

Image
Introduction         Too many people in the world today think that there is no work involved as far as salvation goes. They say, “All you have to do is believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” But if you ask them about repentance from sin, they’ll say it is necessary. And, if you ask them about verbally confessing Jesus name, they agree with that too.         If you point out that they don’t really in believe in ‘Faith Only’, they most likely will disagree with you; especially if subject of baptism comes up, and that’s where they draw the line. Baptism isn’t Necessary!         When the subject of baptism comes up that’s when people rankle in regards to salvation. Some believe that baptism is only “an outward sign of an inward grace”. In other words, you are saved when you believe in Jesus and then later you can “show it” by being baptized.         So many people agree with everything else that is required; even those who came “Faith Only” as we said earl

Questions Concerning Jesus: Is Jesus a real person?

Image
Questions Concerning Jesus Series Introduction         There are a lot of beliefs out there that call the person of Jesus into question: Is He real? Is He the Son of God? Was He really crucified? And others. In this series of articles, I hope to put to rest; once and for all, the dispute of Who Jesus is and what He did while upon this earth. Is Jesus a real person? Introduction         One of the challenges many Christians face is proving Jesus to be, not only the Son of God but also, a real person. There are those who believe that the bible is nothing more than a series of stories, created by men, in which Jesus is just one character of many. In this article, I hope to show that Jesus was indeed a living and breathing individual who walked this earth. Old Testament Vs. New Testament Jesus is spoken about in the Old Testament some 300 times in prophecies foretelling of his coming, his ministry, and his crucifixion. Here are some examples:

Leaving the Comfort Zone

Image
Introduction              Some people do not like change. Even if it’s an improvement they simply don’t like it. Technology, for example, is constantly changing. One year you’re listening to LP records and the next year, it’s compact discs. The same with movies; from VHS to DVD; and now Blu-Ray. People try to resist these advances; settling into their “comfort zone” of entertainment, but even they soon realize that they have to change.   It’s just a Vice; we all have one In religion it’s almost the same as more people are staying in their “comfort zone”. There are those who call themselves Christians that attend worship, read their bible, pray, and basically lead a “Godly life”. However, when you explore their life you notice that this “Christianity” is only on the surface. Something is still there that shouldn’t be because they can’t leave the “comfort zone”. Things like: an occasional glass of wine with dinner, a purchased lottery ticket (but only if

The Christian in The World

Image
Introduction         Are you a Closet Christian? One who lives their life like everyone else and then on Sunday, you put on the costume of Christianity. Your behavior, mannerisms, and even conversation are that of a Christian but on Monday, you place your Christian Costume in the closet and forget about it until next week.   You, of course, won’t disagree when someone mentions Heb. 10: 25, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” But is that enough? Even some of the younger members of the Lord’s church go through life like this. They will become converted and “act” like a Christian around family and their Christian friends, but once they are old enough to go out on their own, they remove the “costume” of Christianity and live the way they want. You’re being Offensive!         One main reason people don’t want to tell others, in the world, that
